What are dentures?

Getting dentures is one of the possible ways you can address missing teeth. Dentures are custom-built appliances that replace your teeth where they’ve gone missing.

Dentures restore the oral functions — such as helping you speak and chew properly — and correct the irregular appearance that your missing teeth are causing. Different kinds of dentures that treat different situations.

What are the different kinds of dentures?

Dentures are typically sorted into three different categories: full dentures, partial dentures, and implant-supported dentures.

Full dentures

Full dentures, also called complete dentures, are designed to replace your full set of teeth. If you’re missing all or a majority of your teeth, full dentures are a good option for you.

They come with an upper and lower row of teeth that are specially designed by our expert cosmetic dentists and licensed denturists to fit your mouth and look like your natural teeth.

These dentures are made with an acrylic base that is flesh-colored to mimic your gums and the roof of your mouth, and hold an entire set of false teeth. Full dentures require dental adhesives to stay in place. Over time, we must reline them to ensure the most comfortable and accurate fit.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures are the right choice for you if you have just a few teeth missing. Their job is to fill the gap while looking and functioning as naturally as possible.

Partial dentures are removable and can be made from a plastic base or a metal framework that hold your new, false teeth. Partial dentures grip and hold onto your remaining natural teeth to ensure that they stay in place; they do not require dental adhesives.

Implant-supported dentures

Implant-supported dentures are a permanent solution that requires surgery to fit into place. These are the most stable form of dentures and feature an implant that is fixed into your jaw. Dentures supported by implants won’t slip, and the implant keeps your jaw healthy and strong.

Dr. Ranzinger and his team of licensed denturists offer all of these denture options. Plus they can provide the necessary upkeep your dentures require, such as relining and repairing.
